Workshop Description
Oils can feel confusing at first, but with a clear plan and a good foundation, you can start painting with confidence.
Oil paint is a wonderfully versatile medium. Its slow drying time gives you the freedom to refine shapes,
create smooth transitions, and build subtle shifts in light and colour.
With an understanding of the basic principles, you can avoid many of the
common frustrations and enjoy the process of learning to paint in oils.
There is a lot to take in when you are starting with traditional oil painting.
This workshop is designed to make that process manageable.
We will address some of the most common questions and explore both
the theory and practical techniques needed to work confidently with oils.
The workshop centres on four painting studies, with each class building on the last
and introducing a different approach, from direct painting to traditional indirect painting methods.
Using still life as our subject, you’ll develop your skills through simple setups
that can be easily recreated at home, giving you the confidence to
continue your painting practice beyond the workshop.

Paint, mediums and reference images will be supplied.

Acrylic paint markers, burnt umber and mid grey
4 x A4 canvas panels
A3 pad canvas paper

Set of sketching pencils

3 x Small jars or medium pots
Soft cotton rag
